Six persons injured as clashes erupt after right-wing activists prevent students from going to excur
Ullal, 15 Mar 2015: At least six persons including a KSRP personnel were injured when clashes broke out after members of a right wing organisation stopped the students of Mudipu First Grade College from going to a excursion on Saturday, March 14.
On Saturday, 38 students and four lecturers had gathered in the college as they had planned to go to a trip to Bengaluru and Mysuru. Upon receiving the information that the majority of the students belonged to another community, as many as 200 members of a Hindu organisation went to the college and demanded the authorities to cancel the trip. Meanwhile, the policemen who had received the information about the same rushed to the college following which the trip was cancelled and the girls were sent back to their houses along with their parents.
As the male students had remained in the college the activists demanded that they should be brought out. When the college authorities didn’t agree to this the activists charged towards the parking lot of the college where the bus which was meant to take the students to the trip was parked. The activists damaged the windows of the bus by pelting stones, thus forcing the police to lathicharge the activists to disburse the mob.
After driven away by the police, a group of activists went to Sambar Thota and pelted stones at a mosque damaging its windows. An auto rickshaw in Boliyar was stopped by the activists and two persons Sawad and Imran who were inside the auto rickshaw were assaulted by the activists. Three others suffered minor injuries as they managed to flee from the spot. Several banners which were tied in Mudupi, Mudipu Cross and Natekal were destroyed.
Police personnel belonging to KSRP, Konaje and Ullal police station have been deployed in Mudipu and security has been beefed up.
A case has been registered at Konaje police station.
