Udupi: MSW Students of St. Mary’s College Shirva conduct summer camp for school children

Udupi, 07 Mar 2015: The Post Graduate Social Work (MSW) students of St. Mary’s College Shirva conducted Summer Camp-2015 in Government Higher Primary School, Pangala on 6 and 7 March 2015.
The Summer Camp was conducted by a team of five MSW students under the guidance of Prof. Ms. Shobha D’Souza. The Summer Camp was inaugurated on 6 March 2015 at 10 am in the school hall. Mrs. Shakuntala S, Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Malini U, President of Yuvathi Mandala, Innanje and Ms. Shobha D’Souza were present for the inauguration.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Mrs. Malini U. Said that such camps are important to improve the skills of the students. Mrs. Shakuntala S. In her message said that the students would benefit quite a lot by the Summer Camp as they are exposed to many new ideas given by the MSW students in the camp.
Ms. Shobha D’Souza, as resource person explained in simple language to the students as to how they can develop their skills and also personality. She also spoke about the need to respect the elders and also emphasized on the necessity of cleanliness and personal hygiene to grow as healthy individuals.
The MSW students organized various activities and competitions during the two days long camp such as individual and group singing, drawing, rangoli and outdoor games.
On the second day of the camp, the students were shown a cartoon based educational film titled “The Spirit-Stallion of Cimaron”.
Valedictory function was held on 7 March 2015 at 12 noon. Mrs. Shakuntala S, headmistress of the school and Mrs. Vasanthi, Vice President of Innanje Grama Panchayat were present. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the students who had secured first and second positions in various competitions.
