Nagpur: Fr. Peter Paul Mendonsa from Mangalore appointed as Rector of St. Charles Seminary Nagpur

Nagpur, 27 Feb 2015: The Provincial of Dominican Priest of Nagpur (Maharastra) Archdiocese Rev. Fr. John K recently announced that Mangalorean Dominican Priest Rev. Fr. Peter Paul Mendonsa OP has been appointed as Rector of St. Charles Seminary Nagpur, Maharashtra. Fr. Peter Mendonsa belongs to Nagpur Archdiocese and presently serving in Goa as the Novice Master at Dominican Novitiate in Moira Goa.
Fr. Peter Mendonsa hailing from Pangla/Shankerpura, ordained Priest in 1995 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Pune. He is the 8th son in the family of Late Marcel Mendosa and Cocess Mendonsa. Most of his siblings are serving as priests and nuns namely Fr. Joseph Mendonsa (Cathedral Parish Priest, Jansi Laknow); Fr. Dominic Mendonsa (Prof. Univ. of Israel), Fr. John Mendonsa (Parish Priest-SARDANA-Meerut), Sr. Benedict Mendonsa & Sr. Mary Mendonsa (Pune), Sr. Rosa Mendonsa (Medikeri).
He will be taking over as Director of prestigious St. Charles Seminary on 1st of June, 2015.

A brief profile:
Fr. Peter Mendonsa, a Dominican Priest from Ashoknagar Parish, Mangalore, was born in Pangala Parish Shankerpura in 1967, son of Late Marcel and Cosess Mendonca, 9th of the eleven children, four being Priests and three religious sisters in the family. After the initial education in Shankerpura St. John’s School and Innanje S.V.S High school, he entered the Dominican Order at Ashoknagar, Mangalore, in 1983, and after completing philosophical, graduation and theological studies at Nagpur, was ordained a Priest in the Dominican Order in 1995. He served at Ashoknagar Parish from 1996 to 2000 as a Pastor of the Parish and gained pastoral experiences. From 2001 to 2006 he was in Munich, Germany doing his Doctorate in Pastoral Theology at Ludwig Maximillian University at Munich. After completing the doctorate he was appointed as the Superior of the formation house at Bellur, Mangalore. Then from 2012 he was appointed Novice Master and the Superior of the Novitiate community at Moira, Goa. Since 2006 he has been engaged in teaching as a visiting lecturer in Pastoral Theology in St. Charles’ Seminary, Nagpur, St. Joseph’s Seminary Mangalore (from 2007 to 2013), Prabodhana Institute at Mysore (from 2014), and as a lecturer in Homiletics in St. Charles’ Seminary (from 2006 onwards).
The Staff of St. Charles’ Seminary have elected Fr. Peter Mendonsa OP to the Office of Rector of the Seminary. St. Charles Seminary belongs to the Archdiocese of Nagpur and is staffed and administered by the Friars of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). St. Charles Seminary has a long history of over 150 years. The Dominicans have been taking care of the Seminary since the last 55 years. The Seminary has formed over two thousand priests and ten bishops. Presently we have 295 seminarians from 45 dioceses of India and from 15 religious congregations.
