Karkal: Indian villages treasure trove of beliefs & science - Narendra Rai Derla

Karkal, 18 Feb 2015: India is an abode of diversity. Its glorious culture is deep-rooted in its soil. The nature has been focal point for modern science since the ancient times of sages. The thoughts that occur during the night are inspiration for knowledge explosion than other times. The beauty of nature lies in lush greenery, rural villages that are food-bowls of farm produce. Indian villages are treasure trove of ancient beliefs and science, said Narendra Rai Derla, renowned environmentalist and devoted farmer.
Narendra Rai was delivering keynote address during Chandana – 2015, regional convention of Lions Club International(LCI) district 317 C, organized by LCI – Belman, at St Joseph’s School auditorium, Belman, here on Sunday February 15.
‘Instead of pursuing the age old profession of farming that they have embodied, the rural youth are migrating to cities and towns in the guise of chasing the dream for luxurious living which is a tragic indeed,’ said Narendra. He also said, ‘Lions Club International and Jaycees Club International are doing their yeomen service in uniting people of different faith in promoting education, culture, religious sphere,’ said Narendra.
The first lady of the region Prameela Menezes inaugurated the programme. The regional president Gregory Menezes presided the programme. The zonal president Melvyn Aranha Shirva and Harish Nayak hoisted Lions Club International flag. The convention chairman Nandalike Suhas Hegde welcomed the gathering. LCI – Belman president Inna Udayakumar Shetty and B Sitaram Bhat introduced the dignitaries. Belman parish priest Fr Lawrence B D’Souza and Fr Michael Santumayor were present. Lions Club International district vice president Sridar Shenava, Divakar Shetty, former governor Suresh Prabhu, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Tallur Shivaram Shetty, A T Ujanappa Davanagere, Dr N T Anchan, Vasant Shetty, N M Hegde conveyed best wishes.
Prakash Shenoy and Asha Hegde compered the programme. Variety cultural shows and Yakshagana play was staged as part of entertainment programme.
