New Delhi, 18 Feb 2015: The latest bid for Prime Minister Naredra Modi’s personalized pinstripe suit now stands at Rs 1.21 crore made by Surat businessman Rajesh Juneja.
Gujarati NRI Viral Chouksey earlier made a bid for Rs 1.11 crore.
The bid was hikd to Rs 1 crore by anohter Surat businessman Suresh Aggarwal.
"I have offered Rs 1 crore. This is work of charity and when the Prime Minister is doing for a gret cause like cleaning of Ganga, I decided to go ahead and buy the suit," Suresh Aggarwal said.
The opening bid for the suit was Rs 51 lakh made by Rajubhai Agarwal.
The suit that created waves is being auctioned along with 455 items that Prime Minister Modi had received as gifts during his nearly nine-month long tenure to generate funds for the Prime Minister’s ambitious ’Clean Ganga Mission’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore the suit during his meeting with President Barack Obama last month.
The suit had triggered a debate in social media while the Prime Minister was slammed by his political opponents for wearing an expensive suit.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also had raked up the issue of Modi’s expensive suit during the campaign for Delhi assembly polls.
Meanwhile, TMC has taken a dig at the auction and said it was a damage control exercise.
"This is DCPR, Damage Control Public Relations, this has nothing to do with Ganga cleaning," TMC leader Derek O’Brien said.
