Gujarati couple trampled to death by wild elephants in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram, 24 Jan 2015: A family trip to Kerala turned out tragic for a family from Gujarat as two of their family members were trampled to death by an wild elephant when they were trekking a forest path in Gavi of Central Kerala Pathanamthitta district recently.
The deceased are Kubendra (52) and his wife Iriva (50).
According to the police the couple was among eight-member tourist team from Gujarat.
On the fateful day, the couple wanted to watch elephants in the forest, following which the couple were taken by a tourist guide.
As they were walking in the forest they got trapped before a herd of wild elephant, and the guide escaped from the place leaving the couple behind. As the wild elephants were still moving around the spot where the couple was trampled, the dead bodies were recovered several hours after the incident.
Once the wild elephants had left the spot, the bodies were taken to a government hospital at Vandiperiyar in Idukki district.
This is not the first time that wild elephants have killed people in this region. Few months ago, a Gujarati woman was gored to death in front of her husband and other family members during a safari near Munnar hill station.
