Puttur: St Philomena College celebrates NCC Day

Puttur, 18 Jan 2015: St Philomena College here celebrated National Cadet Corps (NCC) Day at the College premises on Saturday January 17.

 
The retired Colonel G D Bhat was the chief guest hoisted NCC flag to begin the celebrations here on Saturday morning.

 
Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Bhat said, ‘The training given to the NCC cadet will make them disciplined, determined and hardworking people. If you consider defense services as your career NCC will create a good platform for the students,’ said Colonel Bhat.

 
Colonel Bhat advised the students to be hardworking, daring and adventurous because it will create greater opportunities in life and prepare them for greater challenges.

The College principal Professor Leo Noronha encouraged the students to join the Indian armed forces which will help the youth to be more disciplined and become better citizens of the country.

 

Fr Prakash Monteiro, campus director and chairman of PG Studies said, ‘We have strong contingent of NCC cadets who could be the budding soldiers of our country. NCC Day is celebrated in the College not just for the NCC cadets but for the entire student community.

 
The College correspondent Fr Alfred J Pinto, in his presidential address said, ‘India is a country of diversities and it is our duty to maintain the unity of this diversity.’

 
The cadet’s contribution during the parade was remarkable. They performed magnificently through prompt and active participation. The parade session was fulfilling under the leadership of I B Com student Basith M K and under the guidance of Lieutenant  Johnson David Sequeira.

 
Lieutenant Johnson David Sequeira was felicitated for his achievements in the field of NCC and also for having bestowed with the title Lieutenant.  The NCC cadets were also felicitated for their active participation throughout the year.

 
St Philomena PU College principal Fr Vijay Lobo was the guest of honor.

 
Lieutenant Johnson David Sequeira welcomed. Basith M K proposed the vote of thanks. III BBM student  Mumata compered the programme.
