One more heart transplant in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, 03 Jan 2015: Bengaluru is all set to witness yet another heart transplant on Saturday morning. With the formation of a green corridor, a live heart will be ferried by ambulance driver Devaraj for 30 km from M S Ramaiah hospital in Bengaluru North to BGS Global hospital in Bengaluru South. 

 

The brain dead patient was said to be a 21 year old man who met with a road accident on January 1, 2015 near Jalahalli cross in Bengaluru North. He was declared brain dead on January 2, and the doctors at M S Ramiaah hospital had spoken to his family members on possibilities of heart donation. 

 

Incidentally, a matching recipient was found in BGS global hospital, where a 29 year old man, suffering from cardiac ailment had registered with Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka seeking heart transplant. 

 

The Benagluru City Police created Green corridor the movement of heart between the hospitals. The ambulance of BGS Global hospital carrying the donor’s heart is scheduled to leave from M S Ramaiah hospital at 9.30 am. 

 

Along with heart, two kidneys and corneas of the brain dead patient were also harvested. One of the kidneys will be given for a needy matching patient at Apollo hospital and the other to MS Ramaiah hospital. The corneas are given to Lion’s eye bank, said M S Ramaiah hospital spokespersons.
