S Murugan takes charge as Mangaluru City Commissioner
Mangaluru, 01 Jan 2015: Newly-appointed Police Commissioner of Mangaluru city, S Murugan took charge at the City Police Commissionerate here on Thursday, January 1.
Outgoing police commissioner R Hitendra, who has been transferred to the IGP headquarters in Bengaluru handed over the charge to Murugan.
Talking to press persons, the Commissioner said that emphasizing on people-friendly police system would be his priority.
"I would like to take forward the good services rendered by the earlier officers. If required, minor changes are to be made. I have worked here in various positions previously and hence I have a first-hand idea about Mangaluru. The people of Mangaluru respect law,” he said.
On being asked as to how he would tackle the situation given that Mangaluru is considered as a sensitive area, Murugan said that he would not like to accept that tag and that areas are considered sensitive based on various parameters. When police handle a situation in a particular manner they think is right, a section of public support them while others don’t. However, the police need to go by the law and discharge duties, he said.
Murugan is the fourth Commissioner of the Mangaluru Commissionerate. Seemanth Kumar Singh, Manish Karbeekar and R. Hitendra had served as the Commissioners here in the past.
