Inter-state thief involved in one-yr old Milagres Church theft case arrested

Mangaluru, 31 Dec 2014: An inter-state thief allegedly involved in the theft case at Milagres Church premises here was nabbed by Pandeshwar police on Tuesday, December 30. A sum of Rs 19,875and a mobile phone worth Rs 22,000 has been seized from him.

 

The arrested is Alex alias Surya (29), a resident of a popular apartment in Magadi Road, Bengaluru. The police arrested him from second railway bridge at Mahakalipadpu.

 

On 23 July 2014, Alex had allegedly entered the office of Milagres Church, broke open the locked drawers and flicked Rs 1,22,800 cash, gold chain worth Rs 25,000 and a mobile handset worth Rs 22,000. Parish priest Fr Sunil D’Souza had lodged a complaint with the Pandeshwar police.

 

Police, while on rounds on Tuesday, found Alex near Mahakalipadpu. On sighting the police vehicle, Alex tried to flee from the spot. Growing suspicious, police chased him down. While inspection, they recovered a tab worth Rs 20,000 and an exo-blade. During interrogation, Alex is said to have informed the police that he spent his days wandering around and that he was the culprit in the Milagres Church theft case.

 

Alex is a wanted criminal in theft cases registered at J.P. Nagar Police Station and Madiwal Police Station in Bengaluru and Ernakulam Central Police Station in Kerala. Police have informed that he will be taken to custody for further probe.

 

Inspector Dinakar Shetty, Crime SI Ananth Murudeshwar and staff namely Keshav, Vishwanath, Gangadhar, Damodar, Shaju K Nair and Prakash Naik were involved in the operation.
