Udupi: Christmas got to open up humanity & generosity - Ibrahim Sastan

Udupi, Dec 30, 2014: The birth of Jesus Christ in the manger gives a clear message of life. Welfare of mankind is the message of all the founders of different religions. If one lives knowing this will lead meaningful living. Christmas is the personification of generosity, openness and humanity, said veteran intellectual Ibrahim from Sastan.
Ibrahim was the chief guest speaking during Christmas friendly get-together that was held at Pamboor parish auditorium, near here recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Bantakal School retired teacher N Radhakrishna Prabhu said, ‘India is the sole country in the world where festivals of different faith are celebrated with equal enthusiasm and unity. We are embodied with peace and love. The religion is way of life,’ said Prabhu.
The veteran Konkani litterateur and poet Catherine Rodrigues said that oppressing the innocent is not humanity. Meanwhile, one has to introspect on his/her deeds.
Over 50 individuals of different faith were felicitated for their distinct contribution to humanity by the parish.
Pamboor parish priest Fr Paul Rego, in his presidential address said that true Christmas message lies in respecting humanity and knowing the essence of every religion, said Fr Paul.
Pamboor parish council vice president Prakash Noronha welcomed the gathering. The lecturer Vincent Alva introduced the achievers. Anita Mathias, Jyoti and Lawrence Alva compered the programme. Parish council secretary Asuntha D’Souza proposed vote of thanks.
The people’s representatives, entrepreneurs, heads of social welfare and voluntary organizations were present on the occasion.
