Mangaluru: Girl accidentally drowns in disused well at Bejai, despite rescue efforts

Mangaluru, Dec 23, 2014: A twelve-year-old girl was accidentally drown in a disused well at Bejai here on Wednesday December 23 morning.
The deceased has been identified as Savita, daughter of Parasappa and Shantabai from Lingapur in Badami taluk of Balalkot, Uttar Kannada.
Savita had gone to fetch the ball that was on the wire-mesh covered deep open well near an unoccupied house close to Srimantibai Museum, Bejai, here.
Sources informed that Savita ignored the dangers of fetching the ball from her friends. She climbed the wall surrounding the well and reached the ball, when the net collapsed due to her weight and she slipped into it.
The fire fighters who arrived at the spot tried to rescue Savita, but faced polluted water and lack of oxygen in the well major constraints in their rescue efforts.
Savita’s family is living in a rented house in the same neighborhood, while the well is located near an unoccupied house close to the museum.
