Mangaluru, Dec 22, 2014: Raged by apathy of civic body towards garbage collection from over pouring public bins, a certain person Sasidar staged a protest by dumping garbage in front of main entrance of municipal headquarter here on Monday December 22.
Addressing the curious onlookers with his friends, Sasidar said, ‘The waste collection in various areas has reached a pathetic condition. Since the civic body does not clear the waste dumped inside the bins, it has become a common thing for the onlookers to see the waste being spilled over the road by the street dogs. The door-to-door collection of the garbage is also not done properly. When our Prime Minister is giving a call to keep the country clean the civic body is not facilitating citizens to do it. Today, I have dumped the garbage just at the entrance. If the officials don’t take proper action against this in 15 days, I will pour the garbage next to the tables of concerned officials,’ said Sasidar.
The civic officials who were in a hurry to clean the premises as they had to welcome the state urban development minster Vinay Kumar Sorake, promised to set right all the irregularities within the stipulated time.
The designated municipal commissioner Gokuldas Nayak who pacified Sasidar said that he himself will visit the areas in 3 days and make sure the problems are solved. He also instructed the civic environmental engineer Manjunat to look into the matter and take appropriate action over the issue.
Gokuldas said, ‘Since we have cancelled placing more dust bins, we will concentrate for the 100 percent implementation of door-to-door collection of garbage. If this is implemented, then there is no need for additional bins. Wherever there is floating population, we will make sure there are bins,’ said Gokuldas.
Sasidar satisfied by the assurances by Gokuldas called off the protest.
