Mangaluru, 22 Dec 2014: The city unit of BJP here on Monday December 22 tried to show black flag to the urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake in the city alleging him to be the man behind the vacant MCC commissioners post for the past five months.
Though the protest was supposed to be held in front of Hotel Ocean Pearl where the minister Sorake would participate in a programme, the leaders of the city unit of BJP initially had not made their move as elaborate arrangements were made to stop them. Later, when they tried to march towards the hotel from the district BJP office at PVS circle they were stopped by the police and were arrested.
Addressing the protesters, municipal council opposition leader Premanand Shetty said that the minster was the solely responsible for the state of affairs of municipal council. He said, ‘The differences of opinion among the groups of minister Sorake and minister Sorake caused chaos in municipal administration. It has become tough to undertake any developmental work without the signature of the municipal commissioner. The MLA’s and the ministers who had to raise the issue are helpless. BJP has been protesting inside and outside of the corporation for the appointment of the approval. We will protest in front of every function that the minister participates in the city; whether it would be public function or a private one, until an officer is appointed for the vacant post,’ said Shetty.
