Woman stabbed 17 times by husband, survives

Coimbatore, Dec 19, 2014: A woman sustained 17 stab injuries in an attack by her husband at LIC Colony near Selvapuram here on Wednesday night.

 

The 39-year-old woman had married the 32-year-old man five years ago after her first husband died. A dispute arose between them during which the man viciously attacked his wife. Fortunately, she survived the attack and is recuperating at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

 

The injured woman has been identified as S Kathija from CGV Nagar near LIC Colony in Selvapuram. She sustained 17 stab injuries on her neck and hands. The doctors at CMCH had to put 24 stitches and her condition is said to be stable. Police have booked her husband S Sakthidoss, a wall painter, for attempting to murder his wife. Police said, Kathija had married Sakthidoss five years ago. She has three daughters, two of them married. She earned money selling flowers. The couple used to consume liquor and quarrel often. Kathija had previously registered complaints against her husband, based on which police registered three cases against him. On Wednesday night, Sakthidoss had consumed liquor and returned home. He began quarrelling with Kathija, forcing her to withdraw the cases against him. She refused to comply. Furious, Sakthidoss began stabbing his wife with a knife. When she raised an alarm, neighbours rushed to the house, but Sakthidoss had fled.

 

Police inspector N Ravikumar and his team visited the spot and admitted Kathija at CMCH where she is undergoing treatment. Based on her complaint, Selvapuram police registered an FIR against Sakthidoss for attempting to murder his wife. He is still at large. A special team has been formed to arrest him.
