"Recent incidents in the coastal district a blot on human rights and dignity": SR Nayak

Mangaluru, Dec 11, 2014: Karnataka State Law Commission Chairman Justice SR Nayak on Wednesday, 10 December 2014, lamented the recent incidents in the coastal district was a blot on human rights and dignity. ’’Such incidents should be nipped in the bud before it assumes gargantuan proportions," he said.
Taking part in the Human Rights day organized by Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority, he said the district which has pioneered in banking, education and entrepreneurship, should take the lead in spreading the message of humanity. "The administration should create an environment where all citizens should live in peace and harmony," he added.
Later inaugurating the Human Rights Day at Ravindra Kalabhavan here, he advised the youth to be aware of their responsibility while demanding rights. Nayak lamented that it is a matter of concern that even after 66 years the number of human rights violations are on the rise. He pointed out that even in a progressive district like Dakshina Kannada; there are more than 4,000 families which do not have a roof on their head in Belthangady taluk.
’’When one asks for his rights, he/she should be concerned whether the rights of others are being violated," he said.
Later interacting with students, Nayak said no doubt it would hurt individuals while acquiring agricultural lands for nation building purpose. ’’Here we have to take into consideration that each and every inch of land belongs to the nation. But acquiring lands to benefit individuals violates rights," he said.
Dakshina Kannada district additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, Mangalore City Corporation commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, district surgeon Rajeshwari Devi, Mangalore University College principal M Sathyanarayana, federation central committee president Kolladi Balakrishna Rai, executive director Vijayaprasad Alva, Shree Devi Educational Institutions chairman A Sadananda Shetty and others were present.
