Udupi: Varado level annual rally of Society of St. Vincent De Paul held in Moodubelle

Udupi/M’Belle, 07 Dec 2014: The members and office bearers of the Society of  St. Vincent De Paul (SVP)in various parishes of the Udupi Varado held their annual rally in St. Lawrence Parish Hall, Moodubelle on Sunday, 7 December 2014 from 9.30 am to 1 pm on the occasion of the feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, the Patroness of the society.

 

Following the brief prayer service and formal welcome of the guests by Ignatius Monis, President of the Moodubelle Unit of the SVP,  Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto, Director of ‘Sampada’ of the Udupi Diocese, who was the resource person of the day enlightened the members of the SVP about the temporary and permanent nature of the service that the SVP has been rendering to  the society. He said that, usually on the temporary needs of the families that more attention has been paid. It is important that the needy families should be made self reliant by helping them initially and supporting them in their  endeavours.  Rather than giving outright financial assistance to the needy students, it would be appropriate for the  SVP members to  help such students to get the various government facilities and scholarships which are due to them.  Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto also pointed out that certain needy families secretly get help from different parish associations without the knowledge of each other as the associations believe in the  dictum of maintaining secrecy about their charity. He said that it would be better if the different association coordinate their service so as to avoid any duplication of assistance to a particular family or person which could be transferred to the other needy families or persons.

 

Following the discourse by Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto certain members got their doubts and queries answered by him.

 

Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto administered the oath to four new members of SVP from the Udupi Varado.

 

President of  the Udupi Varado level  SVP, Boniface D’Souza recited prayers for the souls of the departed members of the  SVP during the last year.

 

Secretary of the Udupi Varado level SVP, Godfrey D’Souza read out the reports of the various activities from different parishes of the Varado.

 

In his presidential  message, Boniface  D’Souza said that members of SVP can give quality service to the society if their spiritual life is strong. He further said that without spiritual strength, the spirit of service would be weak.

 

Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto, Boniface D’Souza, Godfrey D’Souza, Walter Martis-Treasurer of the Udupi Varado level committee, Ignatius Monis-President of the Moodubelle Unit of SVP and Mrs. Jacintha D’Souza-Secretary of the Moodubelle Unit of SVP were on the dais.

 

 

Ignatius Monis compeered the programme and welcomed the guests.

 

Following the programme in the hall, all the members of the SVP went in procession to the church where the Holy Mass was offered by Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto in association with Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Parish Priest and Spiritual Director of SVP, Moodubelle Unit, and Rev. Fr. P. Raj, Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School. The liturgy and the choir were  animated by the members of the SVP.

 

Following the end of the mass, all the members were served with lunch.
