Mangaluru: Minister U T Khader inaugurates state-level AYUSH Utsav in city

Mangaluru, 22 Nov 2014: The two-day Ayush Utsav was inaugurated at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday November 22. The state health and family welfare minister U T Khadar inaugurated AYUSH Utsav here on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, minister Khadar said, ‘The health department will soon establish AYUSH University in Karnataka. When doctors practice Ayurveda, people will also trust and come forward to opt for Ayurvedic medicines. Ayurveda is a contribution of our great sages and it is our responsibility to preserve it. AYUSH should reach every household family. Both AYUSH and allopathic doctors should collaborate with each other for the betterment of patients,’ said minister Khader.
Speaking on the occasion, DK district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai said that in ancient times herbs were extensively used for medicine. Now, since they are at the verge of extinction, it is our duty to conserve them. To conserve the herbal and medicinal plants, the department has already planned to establish ’Ayushavana’ in Padumale in the name of Koti - Chenayya’s mother, said minister Rai.
The minister Rai also urged the state health minister to make sure that lives of areca and tobacco growers are not affected while bringing about new policies on its consumption.
Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) chairperson Dr Vanita Murali Kumar said, ‘AYUSH is the treasure that is preserved from ancient times and it’s our biggest strength. The next generations will see antibiotics are fully withdrawn from treating patients,’ said Dr Vanita.
The mayor Mahabala Marla, MLAs J R Lobo, Moideen Bava and Shakuntala Shetty, MLC Ivan D’Souza, DK Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, KAUP Board chairman Dr Sathyamurthy, Dr Mohammed Iqbal, Dr B M Hegde, Dr Deviprasad Shetty, Dr Ashok Pai and others were present on the occasion.
