Udupi/M’Belle: Good response to first ever exciting Altar Servers Inter-Parish Cricket Tournam

Udupi/M’Belle, Nov 14, 2014: The Altar Servers Sodality of Moodubelle parish organized an Inter-Parish Cricket tournament on 08.11.2014 at St. Lawrence P U College grounds, Moodubelle. The tournament began with a prayer service lead by Fr Roshan D’Souza and the choir members. The President of Altar Servers Sodality, Joswin D’Mello welcomed the guests.
The President of the programme, Rev Fr Joswey Ferrnandes inaugurated the tournament by lighting the lamp. In his message he said, “Let this tournament help us to be better altar servers.”
The Chief Guest of the day, Mr Vincent Fernandes honoured all the Team Captains by offering a rose to each of them. In his message he appreciated the Moodubelle Altar Servers and wished all the best for the tournament. The Vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Mr A K Alva and the Secretary of PPC Mrs Emilia Noronha honoured the donors by presenting them roses.
Mr A K Alva in his message said that such tournaments would help to enhance unity among the altar servers of different parishes.
Group leader Preston D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks. Altar Servers President Joswin D’Mello handed over Rs 2000.00 as the contribution by the altar servers towards Mission Sunday. Rev Fr Paul Sequeira gave a start to the tournament by hitting a boundary. Henson Mendonca, the Vice-President compered the stage programme.
10 teams from the following parishes participated in the tournament: Moodubelle, Katapady, Kalmady, Brahmavar, Kolalgiri, Pamboor, Shirva, Belman, Kallianpur and Pernal.
Katapady team won the Championship and Pernal team were the Runners Up. Venson of Pernal won the best batsman award and Elton of Katapady won the best bowler award. The Five hat trick sixers of the tournament were honoured with cash prizes.
The ICYM members of Moodubelle offered their services as umpires, score writers and commentators. The Sthree Sanghatan members of Moodubelle parish prepared delicious food and cold drinks and served to all the players. The tournament helped the Altar Servers to enhance their talents and leadership qualities.
