Bantwal: Loretto parish ICYM unit organizes competitions on Konkan traditional household tasks

Bantwal, Nov 13, 2014: Loretto parish ICYM unit near here organized ‘Cultural Courtyard’ programme - splendor of Konkan household of past, with the objective of reliving those moments by holding different competitions at Loretto parish grounds here on Wednesday November 13.
The dignitaries inaugurated the Cultural Courtyard by pulling the curtain at the stage and offered motion for traditional competitions of de-husking the coconuts and arecanut, climb the palm tree, carrying weight on shoulder and running, weaving tendu leaves, making broom out of tendu leaves.
Loretto parish priest Fr Elias D’Souza presided the programme and said the competitions will enliven the culture of Konkan forefathers in their households, besides it will help to be creative in daily living and motivate in educating new generation for posterity, said Fr Elias.
Mangalore diocesan ICYM director Fr Ronald D’Souza, ICYM Karnataka regional director Fr Mari Joseph was the chief guests of the occasion.
Loretto parish council vice president Richard Menezes, secretary Irene D’Souza, diamond jubilee Committee convener Walter Noronha, secretary Cyprian D’Souza, ICYM central Committee president Melrida, secretary Venessia Rodrigues, ICYM Bantwal deanery secretary Merlyn Cutinha, ICYM animator Alwyn Pinto were present at the dais.
Loretto parish ICYM unit president Gladwyn Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Priya Martis proposed vote of thanks. Deepa D’Costa compered the programme.
