Udupi: Konkani Culture - Yuva Fest at Pangala parish strengthens bonding among diocesan youth

Udupi, Nov 10, 2014: Udupi diocesan YCS/YSM organized ‘Konkani Culture - Yuva Fest’ at St. John’s School campus, Pangala - Shankerapura near here on Saturday November 8.
Earlier, Pangala parish priest Fr Leslie D’Souza welcomed Udupi bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo.
Udupi diocesan youth Commission director Fr Edwin D’Souza, Karnataka region YCS/YSM secretary Fr Mari Joseph, Pangala parish council office bearers, YCS – Pangala unit office bearers were present.
Bishop Dr Gerald along with dignitaries was marched towards the venue accompanied by brass band of the St John’s School - Pangla.
The stage was decorated traditionally with farm products and agricultural accessories.
Bishop Dr Gerald presided the programme.
YCS – Pangala unit spiritual director Fr Leslie D’Souza inaugurated the programme in traditional manner.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Leslie D’Souza said, ‘We should take Konkani culture with Jesus Christ. It has culture of love and culture of death. We should maintain our Konkani culture with the spirit of Jesus love. The first step of the YCS is to maintain our Konkani culture and tradition,’ said Fr Leslie.
Bishop Dr Gerald said, ‘We have to take advantage of the opportunities in life to shine in our family, society and nation,’ said Bishop Dr Gerald. He lauded diocesan youth Commission director Fr Edwin for his effort to bring up community youths in systematic way. This occasion will provide the platform to exhibit their talents,’ said Bishop Dr Gerald.
Fr Mari Joseph launched the Konkani Bazaar.
Fr Vincent Coelho held the prayers. Udupi diocesan YCS president Clive John Quadros welcomed the gathering. Elson D’Souza Hirgan and Sasha Rodrigues compered the programme.
ICYM Kallianpur deanery conveners Fr Fredrick D’Souza and Fr Rolwyn Aranha, Kundapur ICYM deanery convener Fr Paul Prakash, ICYM Shirva deanery convener Fr Wilson, Mangalore diocesan ICYM former director Fr Herald Pereira, Fr John Moras, animators and others were present.
Konkani singer and resource person Irene Rebello delivered a talk on career guidance to the youth.
There were Konkani cultural dances organized and Sr Noel, Santhosh and Snehith were the jurors. Nelson Monis presented quiz and Konkani singing competitions during Konkani Culture Fest.
Deanery level group cultural skits on the events of parish wards and ward Gurkar by Kundapur deanery, head-load offerings by Karkal Deanery, roce ceremony by Shirva deanery, Christian weddings by Kallianpur deanery and cradling ceremony by Udupi deanery held authentically.
Udupi diocesan vicar general Monsignor Baptist Menezes presided the valedictory function here on Sunday evening.
YCS national Committee director Fr Charles Menezes, Fr Leslie, Fr Edwin, Francis D’Cunha, Clive John Quadros, Pangala YCS unit president, animators and others were present on the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Charles Menezes said, ‘Religion is humanity. The hard work of our Christian youth will influence others during their career.’
The prizes were distributed to the winners of various cultural competitions. Most of the personalities were felicitated for their contribution to YCS.
Fr Mari Joseph and Monsignor Baptist Menezes commended the leadership of Fr Edwin D’Souza, due to his leadership Udupi diocese is shining in youth organizations in Karnataka and rest of the country.
Fr Edwin D’Souza felicitated Monsignor Baptist for his outstanding hard work for the betterment of community youth.
Konkani Cultural Fest was a mega success that promoted bonding among youth of different parishes across Udupi diocese and also given them a chance to explore their inherent talents.
