Mangaluru: DK first in implementation of PM Jan Dhan Yojana in state

Mangaluru, 07 Nov 2014: Dakshina Kannada (DK) district achieved remarkable progress in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) and stands first in the state.
Dakshina Kannada district is the first district in the state to have at least one basic savings bank deposit (BSBD) account for all families.
Addressing the media persons here on Friday November 7, DK district Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said, ‘Banks in our district opened over 1.64 lac accounts during the campaign. According to 2011 population census, the district has over 4.39 lac households and at least 1 in the family now has a bank account.’
The district-wide campaign was started on 28 August 2014. Around 25 banks actively involved in this campaign.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim also said that this achievement will be officially announced after it is approved by State Level Implementation Committee of PMJDY.
As per the guidelines of department of financial service, banks are required to cover each and every household with a minimum of 1 bank account by 26 January 2015.
