Mangaluru: Minister Rai urges village councils to reach social welfare schemes to poor

Mangaluru, 04 Nov 2014: The governments have implemented several programmes for the up-liftment of poor in stages, while the responsibility lies with village councils to effectively implement the same, said state forests and DK district-in-charge minister Ramanat Rai.
The minister Rai was speaking after inaugurating National Health Insurance programme during a function held at Malavoor gram panchayat that was held at the aegis of DK district administration, ZP and labor department, here on Monday November 3.
National Health Insurance Programme has several benefits for organized laborers. It’s also essential to bring unorganized laborers to avail the state facilities. The health insurance scheme is the boon for unorganized laborers, said minister Rai. Twenty-three hospitals across DK district are covered under the scheme that covers 1,516 different diseases. It’s during the last year, Rs 1.40 crore are spent on health insurance scheme. The beneficiaries are entitled for 5 days of treatment after recovery, added minister Rai.
The state youth services and fisheries minister Abayachandra Jain in his presidential address said that better healthcare services were unavailable to poor, who were forced to raise money by mortgaging their gold ornaments. Meanwhile, they can get better treatment under National Health Insurance Scheme, especially bidi rollers and farm hands, said minister Jain.
DC A B Ibrahim, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni, district health officer Dr Shivakumar, Malavoor gram panchayat president Vinoda Shetty and others were present.
The deputy labor commissioner Dr Balakrishna welcomed the gathering. The assistant labor commissioner D G Nagesh proposed vote of thanks.
