Udupi: High School girl dies in the hospital, Rape suspected

Udupi, 02 Nov 2014: The highschool girl of Teerthahalli, Nandita(14) who was found in the unconscious state near Anandagiri died in a private hospital in Manipal on October 31, Saturday.
Due to this development the Tirthahalli town of Shivamogga district, where Nandita hails from has observed the bundh and tension has prevailed with police forces taking the charge of the whole situation.
Meanwhile the father of the deceased girl has said that the girl was forced to drink a soft drink with some intoxicating substance mixed with it. Then the three persons allegedly sexually assaulted her.
It is alleged that on October 29 a gang which came in a car while the girl was waiting for bus in the bus stand along with her friends called her name. As the girl reached near the car the men in the car said to pulled the girl inside the car and kidnapped her. In the evening she was found near Tuduki Anandagiri in Teerthahalli at around 4pm. Some fire wood collectors noticed her and they contacted her parents through the mobile number mentioned in her school identity card.
Thirthahalli town observed bandh on Saturday in protest of the alleged rape and death of the girl. There were attempts of stone pelting during the funeral procession. Police personnel had to resort to lathi charge in few instances. A car suspected to have been used by the culprits was also damaged. A person was also manhandled because of suspicion. Additional security arrangements were made in town.
In other parts of Shivamoga district also, silent protests were held on Saturday.
Police are still on the lookout for the culprits but as per few sources one person has been already arrested. It is said that they have constituted three teams to apprehend the culprits.
