Bangalore: Residents take part in the cleanliness drive

Around 2500 families of Ranka Colony Road lack basic amenities
 
Bangalore, 26 October 2014: In continuity of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, residents of Ranka Colony Road, Bilekahalli, Bannerghutta Road joined the cleanliness drive in the area as they were seen on roads Sunday morning with brooms in their hands. Despite heavy rainfall in the morning, hundreds of residents cleaned the road and removed all the garbage and unwanted debris & construction items from the road. As part of the initiative, all apartments on this road have pooled in money and took part in the cleanliness drive.
 
For the past 6 years, around 2500 families in this colony have been left in lurch as the main road work here is still incomplete. The absence of streetlights makes it worse for pedestrians to use the road. The situation worsens during rainy days as there is no proper footpath on the sides of the road. The construction work has also been stopped from last 1 year.
 
The residents would like to extend their gratitude to Mr. M Sathish Reddy, MLA - Bommanahalli Constituency and Mrs. Roopa Ramesh – Corporator, Bilekahalli for gracing the occasion and encouraging the drive, despite incessant rain. In addition to conducting a walkthrough of Ranka Colony road, they have also assured basic amenities like streetlights, speed breakers and attention on matters related to resident safety and convenience.

 

 
Speaking on the initiative, Nisha Jain, a resident of Surabhi Apartment said that the mission must not fade away in the coming days and local residents must develop a habit to keep their surroundings clean. Cleanliness should begin from each home and individual and that everyone should take it as their bounden duty to keep the surroundings clean. With this mission, the act of cleanliness goes beyond just one day volunteering, she added.
 
It is to be noted that participation just from the government is not enough, the mission can be fulfilled only when each one of us unite, support and work towards the common goal, said Mr. B L Prakash, resident of Ranka Colony Apartment.
 
We need a proper road as this is just a covering for the canal and cannot be used as a proper road. Already the steel rods are popping out. Unlevelled drain work causes water puddles all over the place leaving no space for walking. We also need speed breakers on the road to avoid speeding trucks, buses & cabs and avoid accidents, said Mr. Guruprasad, resident of Epitome Crowne.
