Udupi: Two young women achievers honoured by Tulusiri Yuva Okkuta at Moodubelle

Udupi, 24 Oct 2014: Two young achievers-Amita Deo and Mohair Shetty were honoured during the function held by the Tulusiri Yuva Okkuta of Udupi Taluk and District at the Geeta Mandir, Moodubelle on Friday, 24 October 2014 at 4.30 pm. Amita Deo, daughter of Devendra of Shivmoga who is serving in the Border Security Force(BSF) and studying in the 11th standard in  the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Delhi was the winner of Miss Teen India title for the year 2014-15 in a competition held at Delhi on 14 August 2014. Mohari Shetty of Kodavoor, born and brought up in Delhi and presently studying in the Final Year BA at the Dr. G. Shanker Women’s First Grade College, Ajjarakadu  has been elected as the President of All Colleges Students Association under the Mangalore University.

 

Besides these two young women achievers four other eminent personalities were alos felicitated during the function. These were: Vasant Shetty Bellare-Presdient of Karnataka Sangha, New Delhi, Bhaskar Padubidri-Presdient of All India Karmika Sangha, Udupi District, Sudatta Jain-Founder Presdient and Chief Secretary of All India Karmika Sangha,  South Kanara District and Kumari Vani-MBBS, MD.

 

The feleicitation function was presided over by Rajendra Shetty-President of Belle Grama Panchayat. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes-Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle was the chief Guest. Other guests included Mrs. Benny Quadros PDO and PD Kamath.

Harischandra Kaup explained the purpose behind the establishment of Tulusiri Yuva Okkuta and Vasant Bellare made an appeal to the people to promote and preserve Tulu language. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes Sudattha Jain, Bhaskar Padubidrirecalled the richness of the Tulu culture especially the Tulu folk songs Pad-dhanas. Other speakers-Suddattha Jain, Bhaskar Padubidri, Devdas Hebbar, PD Kamath, Mrs. Benny Quadros and Rajendra Shetty  spoke about the rich tradition of Tulu language and culture and the attempt being made to include Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

 

Cultural programme was presented by the students of St. Lawrence PU College. Amita Deo also presented a dance. 

 

Ravindra S Belle-Honorary President of  Tulusiri Yuva Okkuta, Udupi District welcomed the gathering, Shankar Salian-Vice President of the Okkuta proposed the vote of thanks and Henry Alva-Cultural and Sports Secretary of Tulusiri Yuva Okkuta, Udupi District compeered the programme.

I d wish my college name to be mentioned in the above article, as I had represented my college [ Poorna Prajna PU college, Udupi ] by performing a solo dance in this programme......... for reference please note- Iam wearing Black and green costume.
