Bantwal, 13 Oct 2014: ‘I have got the job on the basis of reservation because I am blind. But, where I can find a place to live?’ asks twenty-four-year-old Shivakumar who is working in Bantwal taluk panchayat office, a native of Gandhi Nagar in Mandya district. He got a government job on August 18, 2014 but finds abandoned without a place to stay.
Shivakumar was first appointed as II class accountant at Veerakamba gram panchayat, near here. It has given him job security and peace of mind. He was distressed because he was appointed in a far away gram panchayat from his native village. He was not worried much, because he got the job on reservation basis that has brightened his future and he attended his duties at Veerakamba gram panchayat. The finding accommodation was a challenge for Shivakumar, while the panchayat administration informed the plight of him with TP CEO. Meanwhile, on the instructions of TP CEO, Shivakumar was relocated to work in TP office, to work as receptionist that he does with all honesty and integrity. He is capable of doing his task all by himself, goes to his hometown Mandya. The irony is that Shivakumar cannot cook by himself. He has been put up at Samartya Soudha office and urges authorities to house him in state-run hostel.
Shivakumar – a musician
Although he is blind, he is a multitalented musician. He is also a theater artiste enacted a role of a joker, says Shivakumar. He has passed junior grade exam of music, well versed in devotional singing and theater music. However, he is helpless without finding a place to live. He is hopeful of appearing for senior grade exam in music. ‘I need a place to stay in a Ashram School run by social welfare department that is located nearby TP office. I will teach music to the inmates,’ says Shivakumar. His wish was brought to the notice of TP CEO Cyprian Miranda who has informed ZP CEO. Meanwhile, Shivakumar lives on this hope.
