Mangalore: Curtain drawn on Carnival of Dasara with colorful procession

Mangalore, 05 Oct 2014: The Carnival of Mangalore Dasara which set the city on the festive tone was concluded with colorful procession of tableaus accompanied by folk-art group here on Sunday October 5 early hours.

 

It  was the largest of all processions with over 70 tableaus, out of which 12 tableaus carrying the idol of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Durga followed by the participation of other 58 tableaus. 

 

 

The cultural procession was 9 kilometers long which began from Mannagudda to Lalbagh to K S Rao Road, Ganapathi High School Road then to Lower Car Street and Alake and culminated at Gokarnanata temple, Kudroli here.

 

The Vedic celebrations were held at Kudroli before the mega procession began.

 

Dasara in Mangaldevi Temple

The Mangaladevi temple, which boasts of Chola sculpture, wore a festive look throughout the Dasara.

 

Dasara festival was celebrated with great pomp and gaiety at Mangaladevi temple.

 

On ‘Vijaydashami,’ which is the last day of Dasara, idol of Mangaladevi was taken out for ‘Bali Ouje,’ mounted on the head of the priest.

 

 

 

The idol was placed inside the decked chariot and was taken for rounds around the temple.

 

The procession passed through the colorfully decorated Mangaladevi, Marnamikatta route, along with folk troupes, and tiger-dance, marking the finale to the 10-day Dasara festival on Saturday October 5.

 

People thronged the stalls along the sides of the road leading to the temple.
