Kundapur: Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy can empower people; J P Hegde

Kundapur, 3 Oct 2014: Mahatma Gandhi philosophy can empower the people of our country, while the philosophy of Gandhi and former PM Lalbahadur Shastry are ever relevant.  Mahatma’s dream of Rama Rajya can only be achieved by maintaining communal harmony.  The slogan of Shastry – Jai Jawan Jai Kisan can restore the confidence in farmers and Indian armed forces.  PM Modi-led union government has disregarded Gandhi’s philosophy by withdrawing the holiday of Gandhi Jayanti, said former MP Jayaprakash Hegde.
 
 
Hegde was speaking after inaugurating Gandhi Jayanti and Lalbahadur Shastry’s birth anniversary function at block Congress office, here on Thursday October 2.
 
 
‘Gandhi’s life was based on truth and peace.  He died as martyr to sustain peace, while the need of the hour is to cleanse communal hatredness out of our mind.  The sweeping the streets with brooms will not realize the dream of Gandhi.  Those who distributed sweets after gunning down Gandhi at that time are trying to disgrace Gandhi’s philosophy.  Gandhi lived peacefully amongst Hindu, Muslim and Christians,’ said the lecturer and renowned intellectual Jayaprakash Shetty.
