Udupi: Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan at St Mary’s College, Shirva

Udupi, 02 Oct, 2014: The celebration of Gandhi Jayanti continued with the ‘Clean India Campaign’ at St Mary’s College, Shirva, near here on Thursday October 2.
Wilson D’Souza, vice president of parish council of Our Lady of Health church, Shirva was the chief guest of the event. Speaking on the occasion, Wilson emphasised the need of cleanliness. He said, ‘Cleanliness should begin in our body first then in dress, environment and in the society. The development without cleanliness is meaningless; we need to stop throwing waste here and there.’ He advised the students to keep environment clean.
Professor Rajan V N, the principal of College, in his presidential address, said the values of Mahatma Gandhi still relevant in our society. Truth, non-violence, self discipline and cleanliness are the values of healthy society and asked the students to draw inspiration from the great leaders for the development.
Professor Pascal D’Sa, Professor Venugopal, Professor Vittal Nayak, NCC officer Praveen Kumar, NSS programme officer Ajith D’Mello and Rovers and Rangers co-ordinator Professor Sushmitha and student leaders were present in the programme.
After the programme NCC, Rovers, Rangers and NSS students cleaned entire college and the surroundings.
