Dubai: Jayant Kaikini’s ’Iti Ninna Amrutha’ Kannada play staged

Dubai, 28 Sept 2014: Noted Kannada writer Jayant Kaikini’s Kannada Play “Iti Ninna Amruta’ directed by Prakash Payyar was staged at Nashwan Auditorium, Al Nasr Leisureland, Dubai on September 26, 2014 Friday at 6.00PM.
“Iti ninna Amrutha” adoption of Javed Siddiqui’s play ”Tumhari Amrita” is a love story told through the exchange of love letters spanning 35 years between two people from very different back grounds, two people who could not come together, and could not stay apart. A tale of the universal tragedy of lovers torn apart by destiny.
The program commenced with a formal stage function where the distinguished guests lit the lamp in the tradition of India. Famous writer, and translator Prof. HS Shivaprakash, President of Dhvani Pratishthana Prakash Payyar, Managing Director of Chilly Willy food products Satish Venkataramana, MD of ACME building Materials Harish Sherigar, Entrepreneur Ramachandra Hegde, famous artist Madhusudhan, Proprietor of Arab Udupi hotels Shekhar Shetty, President of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha Sarvotham Shetty, and art director Ganesh Rai were present on the dais.
On this beautiful occasion noted dramatist Prof. H.S. Shivaprakash was honored with “Dhwani Sriranga” International Kannada theatre award for the year 2013-14.
H.S. Shivaprakash (Hulkuntemath Shivamurthy Sastri Shivaprakash, born 1954) is a leading Kannada poet and playwright. He is a professor at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He heads the Cultural Centre at Berlin, run by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), known as the Tagore Centre, as Director. He has seven anthologies of poems, twelve plays, and several other books to his credit. His works have been widely translated into English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Polish, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. His plays have been performed in Kannada, Hindi, Manipuri, Rabha, Assamese, Bodo, Tamil and Malayalam. Shivaprakash is also a well-known authority on vachana literature, Bhakti movements of India, and Sufi and other mystic traditions.
After receiving the honor, professor said, now a days, kannada is shining at the international level through many associations like Dhvani Pratishthana, but dhvani is carrying the true essence of grammatical kannada without the adoption of any other languages.
He said, “by dream I wanted to be a wrestler but my fate made me a writer. My small works for culture and literature are accepted by the people of all around the world and this is what lead me here to this stage today. My sincere greetings to Prakash Payyar and entire members of Dhvani Pratishtana for honoring me with prestigious “Dhwani Sriranga” award”.
Noted stage artist Gopika Mayya and Prabhakar Kamath are in the lead roles of “Iti Ninna Amrutha” and their wonderful performance impressed the crowd gathered in the auditorium.
The stage lighting system by Vinay Kumar Naik, combined with the stage design of Ganesh Rai and Sampath Shetty, Santhosh Poojary, Sandesh jain & Sathish Ullal and melodious sounds & music made “Iti Ninna Amrutha” a classic presentation for play lovers.
