Mumbai, 22 Sep, 2014: For most of the Mumbaikars it was a regular lazy Sunday, but carter road in Bandra was bustling with activity. 50 odd people came together and danced their heart out to promote Peace at around 7:20 A.M. on 21st morning to celebrate World Peace Day. These 25 or so couples came in out of nowhere and performed a Flash Mob based on Zouk dance from. Zouk is a Brazilian dance form which is known worldwide as the Dance of Love. These people representing International Zouk Flash Mob (IZFM) belong to DanceVilla Productions, a premier Latin dance teaching institute based out of Thane. IZFM is a huge scale flash mob that is performed worldwide on the same day, to the same song and on the same choreography.

Bandra residents weren’t the only lucky ones to witness this World Peace initiative. After Carters the group performed at 5 more venues - Marine Drive, International Airport Terminals, Viviana Mall and Korum Mall, Thane. Such enthusiasm and energy showed its results. The crowd which gathered to see the Flash Mob was wooed by their performance. The performers also handed out Peace cards and White roses as a symbol of Peace. DanceVilla Productions also took part in “International Cities of Peace” initiative by the United Nations in which people from different background come together and celebrate this day with a Potluck known as “Feast for Peace”. They went further and maintained 2 minutes of Silence at 12 noon at Marine Drive in solidarity with People affected by conflicts across the world.

What is noteworthy is the journey that lead to making this multi-venue Flash Mob a grand success.

The team of DanceVilla Productions which comprise of professionals working in various MNCs have taken it upon themselves to open India to the world of Latin Dancing. To make sure no dance enthusiast misses out on the opportunity to be a part of this global phenomenon, they undertook massive promotional “dance workshops” across MNCs and colleges in Mumbai. Around 100 people performed Zouk in Mumbai- which is proof enough that the Zouk bug is catching on..!

Juggling professional commitments and their passion for dance was a challenge in itself but add the paperwork and permissions that go into getting these iconic locations in Mumbai for a flash mob and you know what IZFM is all about.

Performing a Flash mob with such a big crowd on an intricate choreography is not an easy task to accomplish. What we witnessed was an amalgamation of sheer passion, team work and dedication.
