Mangalore: Inter-Collegiate Meets essential to foster bonds among students - Prof Dharma

Mangalore, Sep 12, 2014: The Mangalore University inter-collegiate literary competitions were held in collaboration with the Rosario College of Management Studies, at Rosario cultural hall, here on Thursday September 11.
Mangalore University student welfare officer Professor P L Dharma inaugurated the programme here on Thursday morning.
Professor P L Dharma in his inaugural address explained the reasons why the inter-collegiate literary competitions were brought back to the different college campuses. He further said that there is tendency among the students to go away from each other; the literary competitions will bring together the youth of different places which will help to build brighter nation.
Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu in his presidential address conveyed best wishes to the literary competitions.
The students from 41 colleges took part in competitions: quiz, Kannada debate, English debate and elocution. The views of the participants in elocution, on the topic ‘Crisis in Higher Education’ were enlightening.
A total number of 165 students from 41 colleges participated in 4 different events. The number of participants in quiz was 35, elocution 30, debate (English) 41 and debate (Kannada) 60. The University College, Konaje was the overall winner and Canara First Grade College, Mangalore were the runner up.
Maps College, Bunts Hostel bagged first place, Canara College bagged the second place and NSAM First Grade College, Nitte bagged the third place in the quiz competitions.
Anup S Kumar of MGM College, Udupi bagged the first place, Jennifer Lobo of University College, Konaje bagged the second place and Shivani of Govind Das College, Suratkal bagged the third place in elocution competition.
Pranamya Bhat of Alvas College, Moodbidri bagged the first place, Jennifer Lobo of University College, Konaje bagged the second place and Anusha K P of SDM College, Ujire bagged the third place in debate in favor of English topic.
Avni of Canara First Grade College, Mangalore bagged the first place, Deepika Pai of Poornaprajna Evening College, Udupi bagged the second place and Geetanjali of Alvas College, Moodbidri bagged the third place in debate against English topic.
Pavitra of SDM College, Ujire bagged the first place, Chaithara of University College, Konaje bagged the second place and Karthik G of Poornaprajna Evening College, Udupi bagged the third place in debate in favor of Kannada.
Srivatsa C S of Vivekanand College, Puttur bagged the first place, Gururaj of Meridian College, Ullal bagged the second place and Sameera of Alvas College, Moodbidri bagged the third place in debate against Kannada.
Rosario educational institutions correspondent Fr J B Crasta welcomed the gathering. The principal Fr Alwin Serrao proposed the vote of thanks. Fr Rocky Fernandes was the co-coordinator of the programme.
