Mangalore: DK and Udupi Beedi Contractors To Go On Indefinite Strike From Today

Mangalore, Sep 10, 2014: The State Beedi Contractors’ Association along with Beedi Contractors’ Association of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts will go on a indefinite strike from today urging the beedi companies to increase the commission per 1000 beedis is not increased to Rs. 15.60 from the existing Rs.10.60.
The working president of the Dakshina Kannada Beedi contractors association Mohemmed Rafi speaking to media persons in the Hotel Janatha Deluxe said that due to the increase in the labour and transportation charges the beedi contractors of both the districts have been finding to difficult to give the services to the beedi workers.
We organized two meetings with the administration of the beedi companies on 4.9.2014 and 8.9.2014 and in both the meetings the companies have denied to fulfil our demands.
We have delivered the beedi’s made till this day and to urge the beedi companies to increase the commission, will go on indefinite strike from today until the demands are fulfilled.
Since Mangalore Beedi has great demand in the market this strike will have adverse effect on the life of beedi workers as well as the buys and the beedi companies.
The State Beedi Contractors’ Association President Ravi Udupi, Chief Secretary BM Aboobakkar, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Beedi Contractor’s Association President Krishnappa Thokkottu, Honorary president Sachidananda Shetty and Secreatry Lakshman Farangipet were present among others.
