Moodbidri, 23 Aug 2014: Python had crawled into a cashew factory near Kallamundkur on Thursday, The workers, in a collective operation, caught it, transported to a forest located about five kilometres in Kompadavu and released it there. But, without their knowledge, the python is said to have crept back into the vehicle and took shelter inside the chassis.
In the evening, when the driver opened the bonnet, he was shocked to see the reptile. All workers joined together and tried to pull it out, but it refused to budge. ’Snake’ Ganesh, an expert, was also called in. But he could not do much.
The forest personnel who too did their best did not succed. Out of despair, they advised the factory owners to kill it and pull it out. It seemed to have felt comfortable in the warmth inside the vehicle during the rainy season.
The owner, Varadaraya Kamath, refused to do any harm to the endangered species. He got the driver’s seat removed and chassis was cut with the help of welding equipment.
The python seemed to have literally felt the ’heat’ when the dashboard got warmer by the welding cutter equipment. It loosened its grip and moved slightly. The workers made use of the opportunity and pulled it out.
It was later taken to the forest to release it there. The people involved might have been wiser enough to ensure that it would not return to the comfort zone of the Tempo vehicle again.
