M’lore: Sri Krishna, fancy dress competition draws people to Kadri temple

Mangalore, Aug 18, 2014 : Even though people were gathered for Sri Krishna, fancy dress competitions at Manjunateshwar temple, Kadri, here on Sunday August 17, festive spirit was high with tiny tots donning costumes of Muddu Krishna on the auspicious occasion of Krishnastami.

 

The parents innovated on costume to make their child special on the occasion, while the onlookers were eager to take their pictures in their mobile phones.  It was indeed a treat to eyes to view each child’s beauty and innocence.

 

 

Everyone gathered had a smile even when soft chinned tiny tots had the butter on their faces and no one wanted to clean it. Everyone had their share of happiness and satisfaction seeing their dearest god in the form these innocent ones.

 

The thirtieth Sri Krishna fancy dress competitions were organized by Kalkura Foundation at Kadri temple was the mega success even this year with one thousand registrations till Sunday afternoon in 25 categories.

 

The special feature of this year’s competition is Sri Krishna Varna Vaibhava, wherein children of various all ages will art of Lord on canvas in 6 categories.

 

Kalkura Foundation chairman Pradeep Kumar Kalkura satisfied by the good response said, ‘By evening the number of participants touched 2,000 compared to the same numbers in the previous year. This year, we had to make the competition with 25 categories compared to 19 announced realizing that all the children of all the age category will compete in the same competition which will be like making injustice to young and in-experienced ones.’

 

The categories were titled ‘Kanda Krishna’ for kids below the age of 1 year and ‘Muddu Krishna’ for kids below the age of 2 years, which permitted mothers to accompany the children on the stage. The other categories were ‘Tunta Krishna’ for children aged 2 years – 3 years, ‘Bala Krishna’ for KG and LKG kids, ‘Kishora Krishna’ for kids of UKG and Class I, ‘Sri Krishna’ for children of Class II, Class III, and Class IV, ‘Geetha Krishna’ which included scenes of the Geetopadesha for students up to Class VII and ‘Yaksha Krishna’ for students up to Class VIII, required them to wear Yakshagana costumes, ‘Radhakrishna,’ ‘Yashoda Krishna’ for women as well as children, ‘Shankanada,’ and a special competition called ‘Devaki Krishna.’ The children’s mothers also danced on stage as part of ‘Devaki Krishna’ and ‘Vasudeva Krishna’ categories.

 

Besides, a ‘Bala Krishna’ quiz competition for students up to Class VII and ‘Sri Krishna’ quiz was held for students above Class VII. Apart from this, a special category titled ‘Krishna Photography’ with attractive poses was held.

 

The competitions are being held in 9 platforms in Kadri - Manjunat temple’s Abhishek Hall in both the floors - Manjushree, Ashwattha Katte, Kadri Kere, Sri Krishna Janmastami Samiti main stage, Kalyana Mantapa and Ganapati temple.

 

Earlier, Kateel – Durgaparameshwari temple chief priest inaugurated the competitions.

 

Each child participant received an idol of Kadegolu Krishna made out of five metals, Bhagavadgita, a certificate, a portrait of Lord Manjunatha, along with an attractive cloth bag each. The children were also served hot milk, peda, and ice cream.
