Beltangady: Dharmasthala Temple staff rescues woman who tried to commit suicide

Beltangady, 9 Aug 2014: The temple assistants of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala rescued a woman when she tried to commit suicide by jumping into Netravati River at a bathing point, here on Thursday August 7 evening.
 
The woman has been identified as Geeta (name changed), residing in Bangalore, employed in a private company.  She was living with her parents along with her brother.  It seemed she was depressed on Thursday August 7 morning.  She left as usual to work, but boarded the bus bound to Dharmasthala and reached the temple at 7.00pm.  On reaching Dharmasthala, she rushed to the bathing point at Netravati River, where pilgrims usually take holy dip.

 

 
The river was overflowing owing to torrential rains that have been lashing across the taluk since 2 days.  There were a few pilgrims bathing at the point, when suddenly the woman jumped into the bloated river.  The pilgrims raised an alarm, when the temple staff Yatish Gowda plunged into the water and managed to rescue her with the help of locals.  She was given first aid and allowed to stay in the temple’s guest house.
 
The temple staff took the contact number of her parents, when she recovered a little; she spoke to her parents and said that she is safe in Dharmasthala.  Meanwhile, her parents rushed to Dharmasthala from Bangalore on the same night and reached Dharmasthala, here on Friday August 8.
 
She said that she has taken the drastic step to end her life, due to some kind of worries and begged pardon from her parents who were happy that Lord Manjunat had saved their loving daughter.
 
The family after offering puja at the temple left to Bangalore on Friday morning.
