Mangalore: Infection Control Campaign held at KMC Hospital

Mangalore, 20 December 2010: The Valedictory function of the three month Infection Control Campaign was held on 17th Dec 2010 at the Sanjeevani Hall at KMC Hospital Attavar. The infection Control Campaign was organised by the HAICC, KMC Hospitals and focused on education and monitoring of Infection Control practices and Antibiotic resistance in the hospital. Strict Infection Control Practices and restricted and judicious use of antibiotics are essential for reducing hospital acquired infections.

 

 

As part of the Valedictory function, a Presentation was given by HAICC Chairperson, Dr.ShrikalaBaliga outlining the various activities and the progress made towards adherence to infection control practices. A scientific session was organised as part of the Valedictory celebrations. Dr.DamodharShenoy, spoke on the importance of Infection Control in the ICU and Dr. Ashok Shenoy spoke on the use of generic drugs. An interesting Panel Discussion on Antibiotic Policy: The Policy of Adherance was the highlight of the programme. It was chaired by the Dean, Maj(Gen) RetdDr. G Rajgopal, and included panelists Dr. M Chakrapani, Prof of Medicine, Dr. B S Baliga, Prof and HOD, Paediatrics and Dr.Shalini Shenoy, Professor of Microbiology  who deliberated on the various aspects of Antibiotic Policy and its implementation. Prizes for the various competitions which were held during the Campaign were also distributed.

 

Infection Control Daily Quiz was won by Ms.Regina Lasrado & Ms.Gracy Lobo for maximum correct answers. Infection control poster competition Individual level - 1st prize was won by Ms.Gracy Lobo & Ms.Kokila S.; 2nd  prize was won by Ms.Mamatha B, Ms.Anusha; 3rd prize was won by Mr.Akhil, Ms.Pushpalatha B & Ms.Lakshmidevi. Infection control poster competition group level - 1st prize was won by Ms.Kusumavathi, Ms.Asha Anna Jose, Ms.Divya, Ms.Preema D’Souza, Ms.Celine, Ms.Regina Lasrado, Ms.Chitra, Ms.Lenny Gonsalves; 2nd  prize was won by Ms.Sabeena Vas, Ms.Joyce Rego, Ms.Varalaxmi, Ms.Divya D’Souza, Ms.Asha Pinto, Mr.Jayaraj, Ms.Chandrakala, Ms.Shilpa, Ms.Veena,  Ms.Vijaya,  Ms.Bharathi; and 3rd prize was won by Ms.Mamatha B, Ms.Gracy Lobo, Ms.Leelavathi K, Mr.Jismon & Ms.Annamma.
