Mangaluru, 25 May 2016: Fish prices are set to soar as fishing has been banned between June 1 and July 31.

The city will receive fish from Kerala but prices are likely to be 25% higher.

During the ban, authorities have restricted all kinds of mechanized boats with engines - outboard as well as on board - above 10 HP from venturing into the sea for fishing. But conventional boats and those fitted with outboard engines up to 10 HP can be used for fishing.

The ban has been enforced under the Karnataka Coastal Fishing (Regulation) Act 2014 and has been done to help breeding of fish. Violators would have to face strict action, officials have said.
