Sand mining stalled in DK; Illegal transporters book 6 goods wagons destined to Hassan

Bantwal, 14 April 2016: The sand used to be illegally transported by road and waterways. Now it’s the term of rail route..! It’s the latest incident witnessed here on Wednesday April 13, wherein 6 goods wagons of a train are illegally loaded with sand for onward journey causing aghast to mining and police department.

 

 

Backdrop of incident

The sand that was brought in trucks was being loaded into 6 goods wagons of the train at B C Road railway station, here on Wednesday morning. The town sub-inspector Nandakumar and policemen who got the info arrived at the spot to find the wagons are being loaded with truckloads of sand. Nandakumar informed the officials of mining and geology department who arrived at the spot and issued a notice to railway station master not to give green signal to move the goods train.  

 

‘The initial investigation by the police revealed that the sand was booked for illegal transport and the goods train will not be allowed to move,‘ said Girish Mohan, mining and geology officer to the media.

 

‘A case has been registered in Bantwal town police station in this regard and the case was handed over to Railway police,’ said Bantwal circle inspector Belliappa.

 

Sand meant for railway works...!

‘The sand was loaded by the contractor to deliver the same at Sakleshpur, Hassan district where he has been executing railway works. The initial investigations by the police revealed he did not obtain a permit for transporting the sand. The goods train has been withheld at the railway station based on the written communiqué issued by mining department,’ said railway officials.
