Thieves steal Jersey cow; locals demand arrest of accused

Vittal, 09 Apr 2016: A woman suffered a shock and was in a serious condition after thieves stole her Jersey cow; she was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.

Thieves broke into a shed belonging to Sanjeeva Gowda of Pelathinja, Kula village April 5 night and stole a cow. The incident shocked his mother Sheelavathi (65) and she was in a serious condition. She was rushed to a hospital in Puttur and was later taken to Mangaluru.

A complaint regarding the theft was filed at Vittla police station. As per CCTV footage, the theft took place at about 2.09 am. The cow was taken in a pickup van which first went towards Kabaka and returned at 2.26 am.

Locals and members of the milk federation, during a press meet alleged that the police were reluctant to take action against the accused due to political pressure. They have warned of intensifying protests if action was not taken against the accused.
