Mangaluru: MLA Bava advises industries to install latest technology to curb pollution

Mangaluru, 11 Dec 2015: At the backdrop of several complaints received from people over industrial pollution in areas including Suratkal, Baikampady and NMPT; Mangaluru north MLA B A Moideen Bava instructed the officers of pollution control Board to inspect the areas and submit a report by 2 months. 

 

MLA Bava was speaking after inaugurating the meeting of pollution control and environmental awareness that was held at the auditorium of Karnataka state pollution control Board, Baikampady industrial area, here on Thursday December 10.

 

 

He further said, ‘The industries got to environmental-friendly because the modern technology is available for pollution control. Many industries have already installed. The people responsible for running mega industries have agreed to take necessary measures on pollution control,’ said MLA Bava.

 

He also urged industries to lay emphasis on locals whilst appointing personnel. The priority should be given to maintain greenery around the industries under corporate social responsibility. The infrastructure development of schools and parks, rehabilitation colonies of displaced who sacrificed their lands for setting up industries, urged MLA Bava.

 

The environment officer Rajashekar Puranik said that district level Committee has been formed at the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner, to keep a vigil on environmental pollution. There are 16 fish oil factories, while majority of them already installed pollution control systems. The rest of the oil factories will install the same by March 2026. NMPT authorities informed that it would mechanize the handling of coal within one-and-a-half-year, to curb pollution in transporting coal, said Puranik.

 

The deputy mayor Purushottam Chitrapura, pollution control officers Laxman and Jayaprakash Nayak, representatives of NMPT, MRPL and other industries were present.
