Togadia banned from entering Udupi
Udupi, 07 Mar 2015: The state government and the Udupi District Administration have banned Vishwa Hindu Parishad Chief Pravin Togadia from entering Udupi district for the next one week fearing communal disturbances.
Togadia was to deliver the keynote address at the Virat Hindu Samajotsav scheduled to be held at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College grounds on March 9.
Condemning the ban, VHP Udupi district President Suprasad Shetty said that the state government’s last minute decision to ban Togadia was unjust and that it hurt the sentiments of Hindus at large. He said that the ban was again a reflection of the Congress party’s anti-Hindu policies. "Togadia had delivered speech in Udupi during the Hindu Samajotsav in 2003. His speech had not created any issues back then," he added.
VHP has now decided to move the court against the ban.
Adequate security arrangements are in place on account of the Samajostsav. As many as six DySPs, 20 CPIs, 75 PSIs, 145 ASIs, 1005 HC/PC, 48 WPCs and 100 Home guards are deployed. Additional number of police personnel from the neighbouring districts are taken for elaborate security arrangements. The forces include 15 KSRP platoons and 24 DAR platoons. Check posts are set up at all 22 vantage points. Besides as many as 150 CCTV cameras are installed. Fire services and ambulances are kept to face any possible emergencies.
