Woman duped into marriage with false affidavit

 

Mangalore, 31 Jul 2014: A Mangalorean woman has learnt the perils of tying the knot after getting to know a person through a marriage website.

 

According to a complaint registered at Mangalore South Police station by Jyothi Teresa Pereira, Naveen Tella Ebenezer, from Hyderabad, had met her through Shaadi.com claiming that he was a Protestant Christian and was a bachelor. This was on October 27, 2007.

 

After convincing that he would get converted as a Roman Catholic through a marriage notary, he got married as per Christian Marriage act before a notary on July 18, 2009 and later at Milagres Church on August 2, 2010.

 

Recently, the Naveen admitted to Jyothi that he belonged to Scheduled Caste. Following this, the victim has filed a complaint at Mangalore South police station alleging the actions of the accused amounted to breach of trust and he had duped her by falsely stating he was Christian.

 

The police have booked a case against the accused under IPC Section 420 and are investigating. Police said initial investigation revealed that he has duped many women in Bangalore and he was married.
