Bangalore, 18 March 2013 (DHNS): A Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation system (CCE) will be introduced in government schools across the State by 2015-16, according to Venkateshiah, Director (Administration), Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB).

“In 2015, the Class X syllabus will be revamped and as a part of this, the CCE will be introduced,” he said at the inauguration of an SSLC helpline on Monday.

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) has been on a drive to set up the system in all schools in the country. “It is, however, for a state to choose whether or not to implement it; we are in the process of doing just that,” he said.

A number of aspects of introducing the system will be discussed soon after the ongoing SSLC examinations. “Once this academic year’s examinations end, the members of the department will review the draft of the textbooks. We will also hold a meeting of all stakeholders to receive feedback and decide on the various aspects concerning the system,” he said.

The draft will then be submitted to the government for a final decision.

SSLC helpline

The SSLC helpline will function between 10.15 am and 5 pm from March 18 to March 31. From April 1, the day the examinations begin, it will be open from 9 am to 10 pm. The helpline numbers are: 080-23310075 and 080-23310076

Its main aim is to provide counselling to students and help them cope with examination stress and related issues. Psychologists, doctors, education officials and experts will answer students’ queries on various examination-related topics such as ways to tackle questions, improve study and memory skills, time management, etc.

Around 8.5 lakh students will appear for the examinations across 3,003 centres in the State. “Owing to rumours of pre-university exam paper leak, we have heightened security. We have already identified around 159 highly sensitive examination centres,” Venkateshiah said.
