Manipal: Launch of inner campus bicycle patrol

Manipal, 29 Jan 2013: An inner campus bicycle patrol was launched on January 26, 2013 to tighten security measures on Manipal University campus. “It is part of the University’s green initiative to patrol the campus on bicycles to strengthen the existing security system,” said Col (Retd) Prem Kumar Shetty, chief security officer, Manipal University.

 

Security: The four bicycles which will patrol the inner campus of Manipal University being launched at the Republic Day celebrations at KMC Greens on Saturday.

 

“These bicycles will be patrolling in pairs on the inner campus areas for a quick, efficient and effective security cover,” he added. The bicycles are specially modified and equipped with a first aid kit, searchlight, fire extinguisher, night stick and walkie talkie sets besides being fitted with a flashing red beacon for easy recognition. “Two security men will be patrolling the health science side of the campus and two on the engineering side,” Col. Shetty said.
