Udupi: Fishing tragedy, bodies of missing found

Kota, Udupi, 23 June 2012: The 3 persons who were fishing in a pond in Moodugiliyaru and gone missing on Wednesday evening, their bodies were found. The deceased are Raju (45), his son Kirana (15) and their relative Narasimha (65). In this area there is a big business of selling the soil of the field to the tile factories. When the soil is dug out it forms ponds and in these ponds there will be fishes during the early rains. People catch fish from this pond in the night using torch lights.

 

 
The three had gone to catch fish from these ponds at around 6.00 pm but did not return until 9.00 pm. When their relatives searched near the ponds they could find the umbrellas, cloths and footwear of the three. Immediately they informed the Police and the fire brigade. But since it was night they could not do anything.

 

 
On Thursday morning at 11.00 am the fire brigade crew found the three bodies. It is assumed that, in these broad ponds may be one must have got down and got stuck in the mud and others must have tried to help, but all of them drowned.
