More than 2,000 telephones off due to Contractor negligence

Udupi, 25 February 2012: Due to the negligence of the Municipal Contractor and his workers, more that 2,000 telephone lines of heart of the city went off from Thursday night and the whole day on Friday. The contractor’s workers were excavating for the underground drainage on the road in front of Kidiyoor Hotel, on Thursday night they have cut the cables on the road side and have thrown away. These cables are in about 5 pipes, if it is an accidental cut, then when they cut one pipe they could have carefully avoided cutting other pipes. But these workers have cut all the 5 pipes and kept away on the sides.

 

 
With this incident hundreds of telephone consumers from the city have begun to complain to the telephone offices. Even the telephone centre staff have exhausted receiving the complaints. Telephone officers who came to the spot and took strong objection on this mishap. By Friday evening they have rejoined the cables as much as possible and the remaining cables will be joined on Saturday, said the telephone department officers.
