Goa, 25 January 2912: “One-act plays are foundations to tiatr form. In the past, whenever the professional tiatr writers-directors wanted to introduce a new face on the stage, they used to see one-act plays competitions, which were mostly held during Christmas season all over Goa, and choose the upcoming actors and give them a break in their productions,” said the tiatr’s King of Centuries Roseferns, after inaugurating the One-act play writing workshop organized by Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) in Margao Ravindra Bhavan’s Black Box on Sunday.

President of DKA Premanand A. Lotlikar, Secretary Jose Salvador Fernandes, resource person of the workshop Prof. Hanumant Chopdekar and well-known Konknni novelist Bonaventure D’Pietro was also present on the dais at the inaugural.

Roseferns who was the chief guest for the inaugural function further said that, today lot of youngsters are requesting him through his facebook to give them a break in his new productions, but as there are no opportunities in the form of one-act plays to evalutate their acting, the professional tiatr writers-directors cannot take the risk of introducing new faces in the tiatr. He went on to congratulate DKA for giving a serious thought to one-act play, a literary form which was very much dominant once upon a time in Goa.

While welcoming the guests and participants, DKA’s President Premanand A. Lotlikar explained the aim of DKA in organizing the one-act play writing workshop. For many dramatically inclined youth the one-act plays were a launching pad for professional careers on the Tiatr stage. These one-act plays were so popular in villages and towns that there was intense competition among different village groups that were specially formed to enact them.

“However, with changing times the popularity of the One-act Plays gradually began to diminish during the last decade. DKA took note of this and in order to once again revive the healthy trend of Konkani One-act plays have embarked on One-act play writing and competition too, which will be organized very shortly,” explained Shri Lotlikar.

Resource person Prof. Hanumant Chopdekar, who had won accolades and awards for his one-act plays, explained the different aspects and techniques  of one-act play writing with his unique style, which urged the participants to discuss with him their queries as far as one-act plays are concerned.  While explaining that one-act play is not a cut down form of tiatr, he said it is one of the vibrant and effective medium to give message to the people.

At the end, the participants were given certificates.

DKA Secretary Jose Salvador Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks and DKA treasurer Walter Menezes compered the function.
