Udupi: Pejavara Seer extends support against UPCL and SEZ

Udupi, 01 November 2011: If my fight for the environment is betrayal to the society, then Dr. V.S. Achary who is supporting the Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) which is spoiling the environment is also betrayal to the society, said Pejavara Seer. He was speaking to the reporters on Tuesday in the Mutt and expressed his resentment regarding the earlier statement from Dr. Acharya that fighting against UPCL is betrayal to the society.
 
Dr. Acharya was speaking against the UPCL in the beginning, but later he has been speaking in support of the company. Many times I have spoken to him but he is still supporting UPCL, I do not understand why. I am honestly working for the environment, let them criticize, said Pejavara Seer. Dr. Acharya was saying that when the latest technology is used there will not be environmental pollution and there will not be difficulty to the lives of people. But with using all the technology still there is no use, I have the first hand information on this, said Seer.

 

 
Central Minister M. Veerappa Moily supporting the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) 2nd stage had said that, let the Pejavara Seer who is opposing this look after the work of Mutt, he does not need politics. Strongly reacting to this Pejavara Seer said that Veerappa Moily being a politician has involved himself in literature. If I say to him that you look after only politics and do not work in literature, will he listen? questioned Seer.
 
Just because I am the Seer it is not right to say that I have to limit myself to Mutt only, there is nothing wrong in pulsating to the people’s difficulties. Swarnavalli, Thontadarya Swamiji’s also had opposed the projects which were damaging the society. I have also put my hands into the fight for the farmers and environment. That too I am involved only in the field of the society and not the politics where Veerappa Moily is, said Seer.
 
Veerappa Moily who is the former central Law Minister, says to acquire the 2000 acre agricultural land for the SEZ in Mangalore, should know that there is a law laid down by the central government that for any project the farmers agricultural land should not be acquired. He has invited me for a public discussion on S.E.Z., I am happy and ready for it, said Seer.
 
If the committee nominated by the government gives the report against the company, then the company has to permanently close down, said Pejavara Seer. But to give the report intentional delay is being adopted, he expressed suspicion. One of the members of the committee has gone to China for a trip. The public hearing by the committee meeting has been postponed by the Deputy Commissioner giving some reason. This is not right, the meeting should be called immediately, he urged.
 
Without the report from the committee, for any reason the 2nd unit of UPCL should not be commissioned. I have written to the Chief Minister on this and he has agreed. Not only that, even the 1st unit which is shut down for the annual maintenance, should not be started until the committee report comes, Seer opinioned.
